S.E. GA. WOODWORKERS’ GUILD
Meeting Minutes—January 13, 2009

Our regular monthly business meeting was held at the shop of Mike Hanna at 7:30pm.  President Mike Hanna opened the meeting at 7:35pm. 6 members attending (Allen Kuhl, Mike Hanna, Mike Whitten, Mike Rietveld, Phil Morgan, Robert Adame ).

Opening/Old Business/Updates:
1.  The “Pledge of Allegiance” was conducted.
2.  Secretary’s Report was read and approved.
3.  Treasurer’s Report was read and approved with $1197.89 in account.
4.  Committee Reports:
     a.  Membership Report:  Currently 18 paid members.  New members= Herman Jones paid dues.
     b.  Festival Committee Report:  Woodbine Crawfish Festival coming up end of April.   Festival Improvement suggestions: 1) a Tool Box (a box to hold important essentials for repairs, such as duct tape, string, hammer/nails, etc.); 2) establish a “how-to” setup procedure.  Other discussion was about using the signup sheet more, allowing selling of member items and accountability for personal funds and items.  Motivating participation by more guild members was discussed.   
     c.  Business Plan Committee:  Phil Morgan led discussion on the Business Plan and implementation.  Tactics and Focus, Planning and Contact were presented and discussed.
How to get more involvement in doing the coordination of events.  Meeting to be held this week Thursday.
     d.  Woodturners:  Mike Rietveld--Basics classes are getting very good response and turnout.  Basics 104 (Spindle Turning) had our largest turnout yet, and hands-on practice is good.
     e.  Woodworkers:  Mike Hanna—Saturday meetings are going well, and hands-on projects are receiving good response.
5.  Library Display—Phil Morgan discussed what we would like to have for item/picture display, and needs input by members for items.  Posters and enlarged pictures were discussed and looking into costs and allocations.  Bring items to this Saturday meeting (Jan 17) for inclusion.  Setup at Library scheduled for Feb 2.
6.  Discussion of Woodturning Demonstration/Class by Bobby Clemons for guild—Cost would be about $400. for 2 days.  Depending on how many signup and how to invite outsiders.  It was voted that March 7 would be a demo day, and March 8 would be a hands-on day.  Due to logistics requirements for lathes, the costs will be $20. for 10 guild members on March 7, and $40. for 5 guild members on March 8.  Making a bowl and an ornament.
  

New Business:
1.  Business cards—A business card design was brought in by Mike Hanna for the Guild and voted on to accept this design.
2.  Phil Morgan suggested that we set up a photography workshop (a “how-to” for display item photography and for backgrounding, and for future “show and tell”, etc).

1.  General Woodworker’s Meeting:  (Jan 17th) Saturday after monthly Tuesday Business Meeting, at 2:00pm at Mike Hanna’s shop.
2.  Turner’s Meeting:  1st Tuesday each month  at 7:30pm at Mike Rietveld’s shop.
3.  Business Meeting:  2nd Tuesday each month at 7:30pm at Mike Hanna’s shop.
