Officers:  Roy Millsaps—President,

                Steve Boily—Vice-President,

                Allen Kuhl—Secretary/Treasurer

Opening:

“The Pledge of Allegiance” was conducted.

Secretary’s Report was read and approved.

Treasurer’s Report was read and approved, with $711.47 in account.

Membership report:  the following annual dues were received at this meeting—Eric Richardson (and Curt Johnson in December, 2005).

Old Business:

1.  Dues of  $20./year per family are due in August each year, to begin a new year.    Dues are prorated for those new persons joining in mid-year.  (Please pay your dues in a timely manner so our records can reflect active memberships.)

 2.  “Show & Tell”:  Each meeting we would like to have projects you are working on brought in (or to be discussed).  You can get help, ideas, improvements, learn new skills along with helping others.  Get a chance to “show-off”.

3.  Curt Johnson has been working on our Guild website, which is now operational.

Curt has also designed a “Guild Directory” which gives name, address, phone #’s, and type of woodworking expertise/knowledge.  Be sure that he has your correct information.

 4.  Roy Millsaps is working on the Guild Constitution & Bylaws.  Review by membership will be forthcoming, in e-mails.

 5.  The Turner’s Guild—Mike Rietveld and Russell Christmas have been developing woodturning interest in our members, and have been hosting the Turner’s meetings every 1st Tuesday of each month .  If you want to be a part and learn more about turning, come out to the meetings and experience hands-on training for yourself.  They would like to setup a plan-of-training schedule, and help you with any project you have in mind.

 6.  a)  Roy Millsaps is conducting Inlay classes which began Thurs, Sept 22, 2005.

     b)  Roy Millsaps is conducting Carving Classes which began Thurs, Sept 29, 2005.

Both of these classes are held at Roy’s shop at 7:30pm, and he emphasizes that a Safety lecture is mandatory as a preliminary for each of the 2 classes.  High school students have shown an interest in attending the Carving Classes, and will be present for instruction.

 7.  Christmas Project:  Looking for new ideas for this year’s holiday project.  The “Jewelry box/Keepsake box Contest” for award to disabled children (12 -16 years old, boys & girls) was a success in 2005.  Prizes were approved and awarded as follows:  1st prize--$25.00 (to Jim Riley), 2nd prize--$15.00 (to Russell Christmas), 3rd prize--$10.00 (to Glenn Wiederman), and a prize for uniqueness--$40.00 (to Mike Rietveld).

 8.  Festivals and booths:

     a)  Discussion—a suggestion by Mike Rietveld:  get a double booth space for festivals (one for display, and the other for working demonstrations) since we are growing and have more possibilities now.  Motion made and approved.  Further discussion—What size tent(s) to have for booths space?  1) Rent a 10X20 tent from the Navy Base (for $15. per day), or 2) consider purchase our own 10X20 tent (or other size).  More later on this.

     b)  John Herald suggested a raffle project to be made for each festival.  Discussion followed, and John will head up looking into this.

 9.  New meeting places (ie. Central Business-type warehouse/Offices, etc) which we can call our “own” for meetings/get-togethers, etc and possibly use as a shop:  discussion to follow later.

 10.  Glenn Wiederman brought up the idea of offering a project to help the “Assisted Living Center” in St. Marys (his wife works there).  She suggested individual residence mailboxes—Glenn, Pete Bentivegna, and Curt Johnson volunteered to look into making the project.

 1.  Liability Insurance Coverage—Mike Rietveld brought up the idea that we (the Guild) should have a “Disclaimer” that we are not held responsible for injuries at Guild meetings or group project events.  This could also mean Liability Insurance Coverage to be purchased, or some other similar type, at a future date.  Motion made and approved to incorporate the “Disclaimer” into our Bylaws/or Constitution.  A “Release from Responsibility” form was distributed as a means of liability protection for individual shops to use and “personalize” to their own usage.

12.  Local advertising—The “Tribune” local newspaper has a page for “Calendar of Upcoming Events”.  Curt Johnson said he will put our Guild meetings in the advertising.

13.  Guild Website--We discussed what options Curt Johnson has investigated for our website.  It was motioned and approved to go with “Blue Host”, which will provide (host) the website, with 4gb of data available, and no “name” fee (and other technical info provided), for a fee of $6.95/month.  Our website name is “segawoodguild.org”.  Please look at this website and give feedback, put in “question and answer” queries and responses, put up bulletin board items, have on-line chats, etc.

 New Business:

1.  Festivals—Discussion of what all we should include in our Festivals and displays at the booth.  In-progress demos and use of power/hand tools seems to be a drawing factor.  Raffle items could be made, and For-Sale items are always in demand.  More discussion to follow.

2.  Projects—It’s not too early to start thinking about our “Christmas” project, and line up what we can expect to do.  Bring ideas to next meeting!
