Membership report: no new memberships were received at this meeting. Prospective member, Ed Flader, was in attendance.
Old Business:
1. Dues of $20./year per family are due in August each year, to begin a new year. Dues are prorated for those new persons joining in mid-year.
2. “Show & Tell”: Each meeting we would like to have projects you are working on brought in (or to be discussed). You can get help, ideas, improvements, learn new skills along with helping others. Get a chance to “show-off”.
3. Our Guild Website, SEGAwoodguild.org, is now operational and should be reviewed by each member.
4. Curt Johnson has designed a “Guild Directory” which gives each active member’s name, address, phone #’s, and type of woodworking expertise/knowledge. Be sure that he has your correct information. You can also verify info on the guild website.
5. Turners’ Guild—Mike Rietveld and Russell Christmas have been developing woodturning interest in our members, and have been hosting the Turners’ meetings each month at Mike Rietveld’s shop. Discussion was presented at this meeting and approved to have the day of the meeting changed to the 1st Wednesday at 7:30pm each month. (Also, the regular monthly Guild Business Meetings will be held beginning at 7:30pm). If you want to be a part and learn more about turning, come out to the meetings and experience hands-on training for yourself. They would like to setup a plan-of-training schedule, and help you with any project you have in mind.
6. Festivals and booths:
a) Discussion—A motion was made and approved at last month’s meeting to get a double booth space for festivals (one for display, and the other for working demonstrations). We have 10X20 tents available for rent from the Navy Base for $15.00 each per day.
b) John Herald presented the idea of a raffle project to be made for each festival. He will head up looking further into this.
c) Discussion of “Items For Sale” at Festivals--general guidelines:
Do not try to sell items as your own design at the booth during Festivals that someone from the Guild taught you how to make or do—that would be infringement on their knowledge and expertise.
New Business:
1. Advertising the Guild:
We have been advertised in the Tribune newspaper for the past couple months under “Community Events”. We would also like to further our coverage in different magazines, etc. Discussion was made by John Herald about the St. Mary’s magazine, and Russell Christmas said about the Art League, and Russell Christmas & Mike Rietveld mentioned the base (“Kings Bay.net”). Each will be looked into.
2. Projects:
It’s not too early to start thinking about our “Christmas” project. Also about our “Festivals” projects—discussion was presented as to what we might want to do. Nothing finalized as yet. Our first Festival will be the Crawfish Festival April 28 & 29. Let’s start planning!
Show & Tell:
1. Allen & Judy Kuhl brought in a “Mystery Tree” section from their property in SC. for identification.
Safety Video & Demo:
“Bandsaw Operation and Safety” video was shown, depicting different types of cuts.
A demonstration of different types of bandsaws, types of cuts, and maintenance was given by Roy Millsaps.
Roy Millsaps adjourned the business meeting at 8:30pm.
Next GUILD meetings:
